Well, it wasn't an actual, live threat, but a "hideous green fog" was apparently threatening Jack as he played a "Pirates of the Caribbean" game and I had to laugh despite the severity of the situation. Later on I heard him say "Is there any way we can stop this menace?" Who says video games aren't educational? I've never heard the word "hideous" or "menace" used any other time.
Those were light moments, but I've had a few tears lately also. Earlier this afternoon when a playmate was visiting, Jack pointed out the picture of his "beautiful mother", which made me tear up. I went to a wedding on Sunday (Tammy and Frank from Schawk), but cried like it was a funeral and never even went to the reception. Some combination of music and Andrea's friends just set me off. Oh, well.
The last few weeks have been very busy. In addition to work stuff, I picked up Joe Wahman at the airport and drove him to Santa Barbara to meet up with Wendy. She fell ill after a book signing, so I never saw her, but we did hook up with Barb Mac., friend Andrea and CJ for a great dinner. Stayed at Barb and Andrea's that night and had lunch with Peter Hartman, too. A very pleasant 24 hours.
I have been house painting for the last ten days, and it is work, work, work, even with some help. I figured it would be good experience, and maybe it is, but damn! There seems to be a lull of sorts with regular clients, so I'm glad that this came along. I won't be unhappy to get back to regular stuff next week.
I'm hosting the first Tiger Scout Den meeting next week, too. Tigers, if you don't know, are pre-Cub Scouts. I look forward to this, I think. I like so many of the parents and kids. They can get pretty wild, though. I want to meet the expert who can keep the kids
in line
Nov 5
I let too much time pass before posting again. I saved a draft weeks ago.
Well, taking last first, that Tiger Scout meeting at the house was very interesting. I kept the kids busy for a while putting a world map floor puzzle together, but it was slightly dismaying to see how 6-year-old boys can manufacture chaos and drama. I would have thought they would eagerly work together, but I was wrong. They became territorial or something, accusing others of putting things together upside down or incorrectly. I wish I had a video to review. They did get things together, though, and we had our den meeting and learned about the scout handshake and salute, but things fell apart at learning the Tiger Scout motto. Some boys had books that had a Tiger Scout Motto and others had a book with only a Cub Scout motto. I suggested we go by whichever book had the most recent copyright, but apparently Scout officials don't like copyrights, so there wasn't one.
For the record, the Tiger Scout motto is "Search, Discover, Share".
When asked where he would like to go to "Discover" one boy gasped "the supermarket" amidst a fit of self-induced laughter. I think he set his sites pretty low, but at least Weightwatchers can take heart from this possibility for growing the organization in 2031.
We had a great Halloween and look forward to the three weeks of November and December. Maybe we'll see some of you?
Best...
